Millenium Project ranks “Collective intelligence” #4 of elements required in next global economic system

The Millennium Project connects futurists around the world to improve global foresight. It was founded in 1996 after a three-year feasibility study with the United Nations University, Smithsonian Institution, Futures Group International, and the American Council for the UNU. It is now an independent non-profit global participatory futures research think tank of futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers who work for international organizations, governments, corporations, NGOs, and universities. The Millennium Project manages a coherent and cumulative process that collects and assesses judgments from over 3,500 people since the beginning of the project selected by its 49 Nodes around the world. The work is distilled in its annual “State of the Future”, “Futures Research Methodology” series, special studies, and integrated into this Global Futures Intelligence System. – See more at: www.millennium-project.org

Elements of the next global economic system

Millenium Project has identified the elements of the next global economic system. An extract is provided for your convenience below.

  • Leading futurists, future-oriented economists, and future-oriented financial experts were invited to participate in this study, thinking 20 years ahead for imagining alternative futures for the world economy.
  • “During May, 2009 experts from around the world were invited to participate in a Real Time Delphi study of possible components of the next global economic system. Recognizing that the current crisis could affect more people, more deeply and be longer lasting than the Great Depression, it seemed appropriate to identify and evaluate some future elements of the next economic system and how such elements might help or hinder the human condition. The study asked expert respondents to evaluate the importance of 35 candidate elements and to provide narrative descriptions of the positive and negative consequences that might flow from each element.”

Additional information is available from www.millennium-project.org. Their latest 2013-2014 State of the Future will be released in electronic format shortly. A video discussing the report is available here. We’ll be reviewing the book when we get a copy. It is not currently available by electronic download. We will delve into their requirement for collective intelligence and reconcile it with our Global (or Collective) Wisdom in a future post.
